The
Association promotes the idea that no local administration
can be indifferent to exploitation and hide behind
a presumed local competence. The fact that some
situations are more easily localized does not
exclude the possibility of considering them as
situations that affect the province generally
(at an administrative level), because there are
principles of solidarity which need to be shared
apart from micro-territorial contingencies. Besides,
if we want to examine the case of sex work on
the roads, the most visible form, clients tend
to move away from their local area to other places
where they can find paid sex. So at least one
of the contractors of paid sex can live in a totally
different area from where the sexual exchange
has occurred.
The support structures run by the
association are far from the commercial sexwork
areas, for obvious safety reasons, and the girls
under social protection are helped to find their
own independent living accommodations (assisted
locally by the association).
For these reasons, and perhaps due to the greater
awareness grown over the years, social protection
is sustained by many local authorities that are
not directly involved in prostitution.
Numerous local bodies have given economic support
to the initiatives of Free Woman, by adhering
to the Opportunity project. These bodies are listed
in our website under Projects.
Our network consists of contacts
among different services to facilitate communication
and collaboration for the benefit of the users.
The association contributes to the creation, development
and implementation on a local basis of a network
of resources, both formal and informal, able to
guarantee an effective possibility of accessing
the basic services and to create an opportunity
of social and work inclusion. It freely offers
its experience to other bodies and organizations
in order to provide grassroot services and solutions.
Network activity is carried out on different levels:
- raising awareness among local communities in
order to create a network of solidarity among
associations, groups and families.
- contacts with socio-health services, work and
training services, support structures, orientation
and help sponsored by bodies and non-profit organizations.
- institutional work for decision-making bodies,
participation at regional and provincial councils
on trafficking, at the local council for immigration,
with the ad hoc group on trafficking in the Ancona
Police Department, at the Provincial Council on
prostitution and trafficking, the Permanent Intercommunal
Council.
- work with other organizations involved in the
specific sector f trafficking both local, national
and international.
- Collaboration with operators and directors of
the Immigration Office and Mobile Squad of the
Ancona Police Department regarding problems related
to residence permits.
The Opportunity Project is in close
touch with other similar initiatives, mainly in
the Centre-North of Italy, exchanging experience,
information, making sure that people entering
social protection are sent as far away as possible
from a potentially dangerous area and putting
people sent from other areas under social protection
for the same reasons.
The Association has also organized
two conferences in collaboration with the city
